The research for this curriculum was based on the resources of the Steinway & Sons Collection at the La Guardia and Wagner Archives. Visit the Steinway page at our website to:

    • Consult finding aids and indexes to explore the contents of the collection

Click here to see and hear piano 2166 being played!

During an hour-long presentation, students will learn about the Steinway family and piano company, and Steinway Village. They will see a short film about piano 2166, and have a chance to play the actual piano. The Steinway story serves as a model for teaching students about the role archival institutions play in preserving the past, and how primary sources, such as documents, photographs and artifacts, can be used to reconstruct and interpret the past.
